Ask an alumni!
How do you manage work-life balance in your engineering career, and do you have any tips for avoiding burnout?
“Have non-engineering hobbies after work. And try to not think about work at home (It will be hard. Trust me). This is not an easy boundary to set, but crucial if you want to avoid burnout.”
What steps did you take early in your career to ensure long-term growth and advancement in your field?
“Make sure you enjoy your work and have a good relationship with your group. The more fulfilled you are at your job, the more energy you will have to perform. Also, being willing to work on different projects and learn new things will keep you growing in your career. A lot of people switch jobs or roles or industries every 5-10 years to ensure growth in their professional career.”
Are there any specific skills or experiences you wish you had focused more on during college that have proven to be crucial in your career?
“As an introverted person, I feel like I did not connect with as many other students as possible when I was in school. Your network can be useful one day (i.e. one of your college friends might connect you to a job interview if you got laid off).”
