[UCLA IEEE] 2023-2024 Yearly Wrap Up!
Great job this year! We are so proud of everything you accomplished!!
President
Howdy (one last time)!
Thank you all so much for being part of IEEE this year – everything we are able to do and offer cannot be possible without all of your participation, enthusiasm, and talent. It has been an incredible honor to serve as your president for the 2023-2024 school year and as an officer for the past three years. We had an amazing quarter with so many cool capstone projects, socials, and memories and I will cherish my time seeing all of you in our different events and in the lab space.
As you may know, running a club with this many people and events takes so much time, energy, and care and it could not be possible without such a dedicated group of officers and volunteers. I want to thank and recognize all of my 2023-2024 officers (and past officers) for the countless hours you’ve put in to make this community great.
I’m super excited to see what Theo and the rest of the incoming board has in store for y’all and I know IEEE will continue to reach new heights!
Sincerely / With best regards / Signing off / Goombye,
Presiddhant

I had fun being your GB grandma and “real sugar mommy” (not self-proclaimed) and now, I will happily enjoy retirement :) I know IEEE won’t be the same without my jokes and amazing personality *crickets*, but get excited to see how our baby IVP Rachel slays the day, every day next year! As one last gift, if anyone cares, you can take a look at our once in a lifetime performance from banquet: https://photos.app.goo.gl/tF6j2bUFhFHNfpYbA
Thanks for being there and NOT being circled <3,

Hello all of IEEE. Thank you all for receiving my newsletters for the past year. I truly enjoyed making new content and crosswords (short lived) for you all. I appreciate all the engagement and feedback received from you all and for those of you who claimed their prizes haha. Thank you to the alumni who helped out with the Alumni Mentorship Program and ensured it ran smoothly. I hope you all enjoyed it and I am looking forward to what Emily has in store for the upcoming year!
To many more enjoyable newsletters
Benji :D
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Chair
Hi everyone! It's been a pleasure to be your EDI chair this year. I had a great time chatting with the few that came along and with alumni and faculty on their initiatives and ideas for the current and upcoming year. I look forward to what Amy has in store and please welcome Amy with a warm welcome for this upcoming year!
See y’all later!

Corporate Relations
Hello IEEE! Thank you all for coming out to all of the events we put on throughout the year. I had a great time learning more about this industry alongside you and look forward to seeing what you get up to in the future! For those that didn’t get to come out to as many corporate events as you would have hoped, give it a shot in the coming school year!
Peace,
Evan Bird
Events Coordinators
hello lovelieee followers of IEEE! Thanks for coming out to all the events we held this year!! We had a blast meeting all the new members, and of course seeing the old faces as well. We look forward to seeing all of you next year, and don’t forget to let our new Events Coords, Amy and Emily, know of any events and food you want to see in the future!
See you soon,
Eugenia Cho and Rachel Yen
Publicity
Hello, hello! Thank you for a great year with tons of events! It was a blast seeing everyone enjoy themselves and learn more about IEEE and each other.
To many more silly pictures to come!

Outreach
Hellooooooo IEEE! We had an incredible quarter of outreach and engagement, with our activities making a HUGE impact across the diverse communities around UCLA. Our collab with Cerritos College was particularly notable, featuring the workshop series (this time curated by Cerritos’ very own students!). These workshops were foundational for building a deeper connection among our community college sister schools but also developing their technical skill sets to continue what we do here at IEEE at UCLA, there at Cerritos. But we don’t plan on stopping here. We’re laying the groundwork for further growth next year, particularly with a new workshop series at Pierce College. Our OPS 2.0 program is also continuing to gain traction, with a few new schools looking to onboard in the coming weeks. In general, outreach is seeing some very exciting trends; you’ll hopefully be able to see even more next year!
We’re so proud of our Outreach Committee’s achievements this year. Your efforts have not only strengthened our connections among our community but have also led to a new age of excitement in outreach. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We look forward to seeing our initiatives grow and evolve under new leadership with the help of a strong committee like you. Keep making the change, and if you see us around say “hi”!
Signing off,
Eli and Nathan
Webmaster
It’s been an amazing year developing the IDEA Hacks website and the new project documentation (projects.ieeebruins.com if you weren’t aware)!! I’m so proud that y’all showed up and voted for the new webmaster—first time we’ve had elections for webmaster!!! Super excited to see the future of software engineering in IEEE. :P

Project and Lab Managers
It has been great seeing everyone complete their projects and getting to know each other in the IEEE lab! It has also been inspiring to see everyone presenting in Projects Showcase their final capstones and seeing how much they’ve learned!
It has been a fantastic year, and to many more fantastic projects to come!
Cheers,
Megan and Tim
Research & Development
We had seven Student Project Initiative (SPI) projects this year, which is more than we have ever had! This quarter, we had the first-ever SPI social and worksession, and five of the projects presented at the second annual projects showcase. Additionally, this year saw the debut of our Embedded Capture the Flag (ECTF) team, our collaboration with ACM Cyber, that participated in MITRE’s competition to create a secure medical device.
I am very proud of all that you have achieved this year, and I know SPI will continue to grow with Sanjit at the helm. I can’t wait to see what you all accomplish in the future, so let’s keep in touch!
Take Care,
Dominic Olson
Workshops
Hey everyone,
Thank you all for a lovely year of workshops! This year we hosted 11 workshops, and a range of special events for you too! We hope you had as much fun as we had listening to Taylor Swift during the breaks. Your enthusiasm has inspired us and carried us through this crazy year, and it has been an honor. We can’t wait to see the amazing things Jessie and Kai do next year!
Sincerely,
Josh and Sanjit
OPS
Hello hello!
This quarter, we wrapped up OPS with Project 6, our third and final PowerOPS, and finally the Capstone project! We had countless amazing projects done throughout the year to choose from for Project showcase, and all of your capstone car-duinos were incredible. We would also like to thank you all for your patience and perseverance this spring quarter in particular; although we unfortunately weren’t able to adhere to our original timeline given the circumstances, we would say that OPS was massively successful nonetheless!
It has been a pleasure working with you all through OPS this year, and seeing you all learn and grow together. We are very excited to see where Wyatt and Noosha will take OPS next year, and we sincerely hope you all had a wonderful experience in the program this year! We wish you the best of luck going forwards, and have a fantastic summer!
All the best,
Lara and Adrian
Micromouse
Hello everyone! This quarter, a lot of micromousers finished their mice in preparation for the All American Micromouse Competition! The competition was a massive success, with schools from all over the country coming to compete! We had UCI, UCSD, CSU Long Beach, U Chicago, and ASU attend! After a long night of soldering and working on their mice, students ran their mouse in the maze during the competition, with every single team from UCLA who participated finishing the maze!
With the competition out of the way, we’re pleased to announce that your micromouse leads for next year will be officially taking over. A huge shout out to Michael & Nathan; we know you guys will do great! If you weren’t able to participate or finish your mouse this year, do not worry, there’s always next year with MM Returners!
It’s been a fantastic year with you all, and we wish you all the best!

DAV
Hello, DAV students!
Seeing all of your amazing finished capstones at DAVaoke was incredible! There were a ton of fun games to play and some beautiful digital audio visualizers as well. We know that this quarter was especially tumultuous, so we thank you for your continued persistence and hard work. As the school year draws to a close, take a little bit to think back to that first lecture. The growth that you have experienced since then, and the new skills that you have learned—on top of continuing with your academic and social responsibilities—is truly impressive. We hope that you’ve seen just how much you can do with digital circuits.
We are so excited to see what Adrian and Bryan have in store for next year! If you ever think of a great DAV project or just want to try out the other track, we hope you come back for DAV returners!
Thank you so much for an amazing year!
- Prem and Claire
Pocket Racers
Greetings partakers of the project “Diminutive Conveyances that (no longer) reside in the Distinguished Individual’s Breeches’ Receptacles.”
Thanks for sticking with us in this very strange quarter. We may have only had one lab and lecture, but that is largely because you guys have worked so hard, that you completed the content we had for you in two quarters! We are very proud of how far you guys have come, and hope that this experience has cemented your interest in ML and CV. We are also happy to say that upon our retirement, you will all be left in good hands: Holden and Jerard. They may also have something for Pocket Racers returners next year, so be sure to remember that for next year!
We wish you all the very best,
Justin and Hope
WRAP
Hey y’all! This quarter, WRAP split off into hardware and software teams. On the hardware team, we had 2(?) hardware lectures and 4(?) work sessions to assemble the new hardware with a crystal oscillator and … and direct conversion(?). On the software side, we had 0 software lectures and instead focused on R&D, with projects including timing recovery, error-correction codes, and MCU optimization. We are so proud of the work you’ve done this year. We are also happy to retire and are proud to present Victor and Nathan as next year’s leads!
Love,
Zayyir and Grace
Thanks for reading!
And that’s the end! Thank you everyone for an amazing year! We hope you all have a restful and fulfilling summer and we can’t wait for all the fun events in months to come!
