Every year, this organization grows bigger and better. I hope you get a chance to read through all these updates if you’re curious to find out what we’ve been cooking up behind the scenes because there’s some amazing stuff happening!
Let me add a few items to the list of achievements. During Fall Quarter we officially became Intel’s main on-campus anchor organization, meaning we’ll get firsthand access to all Intel recruiting resources (and some exciting partnerships for our projects) in all upcoming years. We revamped the IEEE lab to include space for our broadening repertoire of projects and worked diligently to ensure lab safety and restore soldering back to our members. We’ve started anew and strengthened traditional collaborations with numerous other student organizations to bring you new experiences at both IDEA HACKS and for IEEE as a whole. And finally, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t mention our growing array of Intramural sports teams, from frisbee to volleyball to tennis and ping pong. Engineers do in fact touch grass ;).
Next quarter, you can look forward to more workshops, info sessions, and panels, as well as the annual research fair co-hosted with HKN, and of course, a LOT more socials. Come to Winter GM to get the scoop on the full event schedule. Don’t forget to attend IDEA HACKS to witness one of IEEE’s most legendary events of this era, and we wish you the best of luck for your classes, projects, and beyond. If you ever have feedback or would like to see IEEE host an event you haven’t seen yet, please reach out to anyone on the board, and we’d love to turn your ideas into action.
Have a great holiday season!

Feels like we blinked and the quarter is already over! I hope all of you had an absolute blast at various IEEE socials, whether you were chilling with your boba, hanging out at the Fall Picnic, or on that FrisbIEEE grind. We have so much more planned for the rest of the year! GB kids, get ready to gear up for the start of GB Olympics, competing for the incomparable title of Supreme GB! And everyone keep an eye on your calendars for KBBQ socials, beach visits, IEEEceblocking, and more.
As always, we look forward to seeing all of you again :)

OPS
Dang fall has already ended and we still cannot find our beloved OPS boxes or the infamous “Joe”. Needless to say OPS has had an amazing first quarter with 3 outstanding lectures, 2 entire projects, and a workshOP in a pear trIEEE. As per the love in the room: “My birthday took the cake for me” a certain Miriam says is her favorite OPS memory, as per Eli “My favorite OPS memory was the Halloween lecture, I loved teaching the OPS kids the true meaning of trick or treating.” But don’t worry, OPS is scheduled for more this winter! Join us as we adventure deep into the world of microcontrollers and their macro-use, we can’t wait to see you there!
Best,
Eli and Miriam
Micromouse
Well Fall Quarter sure has passed by quick! We’ve managed to speedrun through 5 lectures, getting our Rats assembled, and we’re well on our way to the Rat Competition and designing your own Mice for Spring! It has been fantastic to see everyone get their Rats to start shmooving and becoming better drivers than most of LA. You guys will be finalizing your Mouse designs next quarter and we can’t wait to see how creative you guys will be with designs this year! But wait, there’s more: we’ll be finishing up the last lectures for the project by winter, and fully prepping you guys for AAMC in spring 👀! We can’t wait to see everyone’s creative visions come to life, and compete for glory and fame in both the Rat Competition and AAMC!
See you next year,
Megan and Nathan
Pocket Racers
Pocket Racers, the newest addition to the IEEE project repertoire, is off the blocks! Over the last 2 months we have blazed through the basics of making our car. First we set up our Raspberry Pis, then the cameras for 👀eyes👀, and lastly the motors to give your cars those thicc 💪muscles💪. Get hyped, because next quarter will be all about giving each car a 🧠brain🧠 for a truly well-rounded experience.
We'd like to thank y'all for a fantastic first quarter of pizza, blurry cameras, and rather misleading Jeopardy categories; and we hope you'll enjoy all that we have in store for next quarter.
Stay zoomin' 🦔💨,
Cameron and Prem
DAV
Ten weeks, four lectures, and three labs, and we in DAV still don’t know the difference between a wire and a reg. Over the past quarter, we’ve any% speedrun ECE M16, learning about what makes digital circuits go brrr: combinational logic, sequential logic, and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears. In our labs, we’ve learned Verilog from the bottom up, and created our very own calculator, timer, and more! At the very end, we’ve been able to make our FPGA socialize through the serial communication protocol I2C.
We’d like to thank our students for bearing with us with our new curriculum, and for inspiring us to do the best we can to make DAV as high quality as possible. We couldn’t do it without you 😀
Coming up during Winter quarter, we’ll be figuring out what our capstone projects will look like, and put together the puzzle pieces that we’ll need for them. Now that we know the basics, this is where the fun begins!
— Tim and Siddhant
WRAP
What a great first quarter for this project and an honor to teach every single student in WRAP. We’ve kept an incredible pace throughout the year exploring the joys (and sorrows) of analog circuit design— simulating amplifiers, mixers, oscillators, filters, and putting it all together. With content packed lectures and very challenging assignments, we are very impressed with the dedication and mastery each student presents in completing these, inspiring and pushing us as leads to produce higher quality content and support each and every one of you. Coming up in Winter Quarter, we will wrap up your circuit simulations and begin PCB design and simulating the communication link in MATLAB! We look forward to a great rest of the academic year!
— Nathan and Ramtin
Workshops
ECE 3 who?? This quarter we explored basic circuits, soldering, PCB design, and resume/interview know-how to kickstart some fundamental EE skills. We’ve had record-breaking attendance levels, and we are happy to have helped so many of you learn! Huuuuge shoutouts to those who got their soldering boards working. Next quarter we’ll start exploring some fancy topics 👀. Curious about exploring computer engineering or the DAV project? The upcoming workshops will give you a solid introduction to the field. We can’t wait to teach y’all more cool stuff 😎. See you next year!
— Caden & Jessica
Outreach
This quarter’s outreach events were a blast! I am so so so grateful to all who helped out and joined the Outreach Committee. To recap, we helped out with 3 workshops at El Camino College, where over the course of the quarter they learned the basics of breadboarding, soldering, and Arduino to build OPS-style projects! We also participated in two exhibits: TedxManhattan Beach and Exploring Your Universe. Demo-ing our projects at both these events was such a blast!
Next quarter, we plan to continue signing up for exhibits around LA. We also have plans to return to El Camino to help teach a new group of students, as well as potentially start hosting workshops at another community college! Additionally, we plan to collaborate with REA and possibly have some joint workshops at the UCLA Community Schools. WATT, ASME, and TeachLA are also clubs that we have been in discussions with regarding joint outreach events.
Whether it was interacting with industry professionals, learning from community leaders, or inspiring local students of all ages, this quarter was a great start to outreach at IEEE. Although not everyone in the Outreach Committee got to participate in events this quarter, I’m positive that next quarter we’ll have more opportunities, so stay tuned! For those who did help out, I just want to say thank you for everything! It means so much to me, but even more to the people you are impacting. Looking forward to serving our community more next quarter!

Corporate Relations
Behind the scenes, things have been going very well! I’ve been working hard to secure corporate sponsors both for our club in general, and for IDEA Hacks (which now has TRIPLE the amount of funding from corporate sponsors as it did last year)! I’m also super excited to be working together with incredible companies on some new interactive workshops planned for winter, keep an eye out for that! I look forward to seeing all of you at events and in the lab, and behind the scenes, you can count on me to keep doing my job as best as I can :)
See you around!
