What an amazing Fall Quarter we’ve had! Every year, our community keeps growing, and I’m so happy that through our numerous events, socials, lectures, and more, I have been able to get to know so many of you. It never ceases to amaze me how strong of a community we have here at IEEE.
Not only have we been working hard on project lectures and competitions, we have also been preparing amazing events like IDEA Hacks 2025 (applications open now!), multiple collaborations with other organizations, more socials, and other top secret activities! Additionally, we expanded our Instagram page with more resources for our students with project and officer introductions, lab tours, and extremely important Instagram Reels. Our website has also gotten a brand new look with updated information. None of these are possible without the hard work of our board members behind the scenes!
I am so grateful and lucky to work with my incredible officer board, amazing general members, and wonderful alumni who support all of these efforts. I look forward to what we have in store for the next two quarters of the year. Keep reading to get an idea of what we have been up to this last quarter, and what you should get hyped about for our next quarter! Make sure to come to our Winter General Meeting during Week 1 to get the most updated scoop (and free food).
If you see me around, feel free to say hi! The best part of my job is getting to know you all :)
Have a wonderful break,
Theo Zhang

Hi everyone!!
It has been such a pleasure to send out the weekly newsletter and coordinate IEEE's Alumni Mentorship Program (AMP) this year! This quarter, we hosted two insightful panels led by our incredible alumni, covering topics from graduate school to career development. Get ready for what's to come next quarter, as we'll be pairing mentees with mentors, and I can’t wait to see the continued growth and collaboration! Thank you all for your ongoing support, and I wish you a wonderful holiday season.

Events Coordinators
Dear agents of chaos…
It’s so lovely to have shared so much joy with all of you this quarter. We had the time of our lives at the annual IEEE Day picnic, along with every single IEEE event since then. It is our greatest hope that you did as well. Can you believe that we hosted 74 (yes, SEVENTY-FOUR events) in just 10 weeks? Thank you for being the absolute best crowd to plan for. We can’t wait to top it all in the new year!! Always feel free to say (or yell if you’re far away) hi if you see us around!!
Live Laugh Love your events coords,

Corporate Relations
We’ve had an incredible fall quarter loaded with info sessions, tech talks, and workshops — thanks to all who showed up to any of our events! I hope you all got to know every company that visited and learned lots from the presentations, resume reviews, mock interviews, and networking time! Stay tuned for more exciting events next quarter (join IDEA Hacks!) and have a warm and splendid holiday season!

Outreach Coordinators
Outreach this fall was awesome! Thank you so much to everyone who stayed on or joined the Outreach Committee, we appreciate all the time and effort you put into representing IEEE and working to expand our programs to the broader community. This quarter, we established a third community college workshop series at Pierce College, teaching basic circuits and microcontroller projects, similar to OPS! In addition, we tabled at TedX Manhattan Beach and Exploring Your Universe, showcasing our projects and inspiring K-12 students and the greater LA community.
Looking ahead, we have some cool events coming up next quarter! We will be hosting Engineering Horizons, an event where high school students come to campus and learn about our engineering programs, in the middle of winter quarter. At this event and a few others, we’re excited to collaborate with other organizations, like ASME and SOLES to name a few! There’s lots to look forward to when it comes to outreach!
Overall, it’s been a great quarter for outreach, and it’s only going to get better! If you would like to help represent the club, meet and work with new people, and/or explore LA, consider getting involved next quarter! But for the time being, rest up and enjoy your winter breaks!
Cheers,
Ethan and Josh
Webmaster
Shoutout to the amazing web committee for helping with IDEA Hacks website preparation! This quarter, we integrated the new fire design team assets into the IDEA Hacks website and put our little spin on it. We also released the new ieeebruins.com website, which is currently in beta. To ensure a smooth development process, a Notion page was created to keep track of all the details regarding setup, development FAQs, and other miscellaneous details, which will be useful for future committee members.
Keep an eye out for the new IDEA Hacks website as the hackathon approaches! It’ll be shocking ;)

Project and Lab Managers
Hello everyone!
Thank you so much for participating in IEEE this quarter! Fall quarter saw the reopening of our (now safety-certified) lab space, the launch of our year-long projects, the continuation of ECTF, and the start of many more good things to come. If you've enjoyed your time with us so far, hang tight for winter quarter—the board has been working super hard and we've got a lot in store for you. Thank you for your continued support of IEEE and its projects, and happy holidays!
Best,
Prem & Parth
OPS
As Fall Quarter comes to a close, so does the first quarter of Open Project Space (OPS) and we couldn’t be more proud of our dedicated students! We’ve already got 4 lectures and 2 projects under our belts with OPS students learning about circuit schematics, basic components, breadboarding, integrated circuits and MORE! Our students have already been able to go from choosing the correct resistor to safely light up an LED to making a functional 3 tone piano to play their own songs. Looking into the next quarter our students will start experimenting with implementing an Arduino into their circuits with their own code. We are so extremely proud of what OPS members have accomplished so far and we look forward to the great work they will do in the coming Winter Quarter!
Until next quarter,
Noosha and Wyatt
Micromouse
It has been an amazing Fall Quarter with everybody and we are very proud of the hard work of all our Micromousers, we could not have asked for more! This quarter, we successfully completed four lectures and learned to assemble and program our Rats, culminating in the Fall Rat Competition. Despite the many ups and downs of debugging and hardware challenges, it was truly rewarding to see everyone’s Rats navigating the maze. Next quarter, we’ll finalize our Mouse designs and dive into a few more accelerated lectures. By spring, we’ll be ready to complete our Mice and compete for fame and glory at the All-American Mouse Competition!
Thank you all for a great quarter and see you all in the next,
Nathan and Michael
DAV
Greetings DAV citizens,
Thank you all for a great quarter! We are very proud of the progress you have made over the past few months, and we hope you’ve enjoyed DAV as much as we have!
This quarter, we had three lectures that cover combinational and sequential logic, as well as the VGA protocol, and during our worksessions, we went over SystemVerilog basics. We also completed two labs, where you implemented an arithmetic logic unit and a slot machine on an FPGA!
Starting next quarter, you can look forward to signal processing and additional topics relevant for your capstone. Until then, we hope you have a restful winter break, and happy holidays!

Pocket Racers
Hello Racers,
Over the last 2 months, we have raced through the essential ideas behind classical computer vision, machine learning, and pocket racer hardware. First, we learned how to use classical techniques to craft feature detection algorithms. Next, we dove into the wild world of machine learning. Lastly, we got started with our Raspberry Pi and physical hardware.
The researchers, meanwhile, learned about the complicated world of AWS, and got started with the DeepRacer hardware. We then took two lectures to introduce ourselves to the exciting world of Reinforcement Learning. Lastly, we kicked off our first assignment - a virtual race! We'd like to thank y'all for a fantastic first quarter of pizza, blurry cameras, and rather misleading Jeopardy categories; and we hope you'll enjoy all that we have in store for next quarter.
Stay zoomin' 🦔💨,
Holden and Jerard
WRAP
What’s up our favorite soundcloud WRAPpers,
Hope you’re getting a well-deserved break after the joyous chaos of the quarter. We’ve really enjoyed spending time with y’all during lectures, lab hours, and work sessions – we miss you already!
This quarter, we had 3 lectures that were crash courses on ECE 115A/115B and ECE 132A and hopefully we didn’t crash too hard lol. Congrats on eVeRyBoDy for completing Modules 1-3 and if you struggled on them, that’s awesome because it means you’re learning! We’re super proud of you all for being able to *wrap* your head around the tough concepts.
It only gets more fun from here on out, as we transition from the foundational learning phase to the exciting R&D phase of the project (i.e. how are we gonna get this thing to work?) so we can’t wait to jump back into things next quarter. And as always, if you have any questions, please ask someone else and leave us alone.
Lukewarm regards,
Nat and Victor
Research & Development
Hello friends, it's me. Happy Holidays y’all! Time really moves fast, it is the end of another fantastic (non-academic) year and I’m still in denial that 2023 happened. This (academic) year, we have lots of cool new SPI projects joining us. So far we have seen the revamp of Musical Instruments, a Signal Generator, more Guitar Pedals, an intelligent shirt launcher (Codename FF), a Refreshable Braille Display and a (finally!) working Tesla Coil (or as some might say, the Sethla Coil). Can’t wait to see all the cool things people do this year!
Happy New Year,
- Sanjit
Workshops
Hey everyone! Congrats on wrapping up another great quarter! This time around, we hosted some amazing workshops and saw record-breaking turnouts—it's been incredible to see so much excitement for learning. We’ve got even more exciting, hands-on workshops planned for next quarter, so stay tuned! As always, if there's something you want to learn about, please let us know and we'll try our best to incorporate it into our workshops. We hope you all have a relaxing break, and we can’t wait to see you back for more learning next quarter!
P.S. You guys should all apply to IDEAHacks! It's a great way to practice what you learned in workshops :)
