Projects Infosession
6:00 to 8:00 pm on Oct 9th, 2023 in Mong Auditorium + Breezeway in Eng VI
IEEE's Projects Infosession is a great way to find a project that's right for you! Join one of our year-long projects to learn something new and make friends along the way. You may find yourself using machine learning to race a Pocket Racer down the racetrack, mastering an Arduino to make iPods and tackle any project in the future, sending a Micromouse through a maze as fast as possible, communicate through waves across the room with WRAP, or designing a game with DAV – the possibilities are endless, and there's something here for everyone! And if none of that feels just right and you have a personal project in mind you'd like to do instead, join SPI to let us help you bring that project to life :)
Find us at the Mong Auditorium (in Engineering VI on the first floor) at 6PM to learn more about each project and to meet this year's wonderful project leads. We hope to see you there!
Basic Circuits Workshop
6:00 to 8:00pm on Oct 12th, 2023 in Franz Hall 1178
If you want to get started with electrical engineering, you should first learn a little bit about electricity! We will start from the beginning with how electricity works, basic rules of circuits, and the most common components. Whether resistors, transistors, or LEDs, the behavior of electronic components will be clarified as you work hands-on with partners to build and test simple circuits. This workshop is beginner-focused and open to all majors and skill levels, and we hope to see you there!

Projects
Pocket Racers Lecture 1 + Social
6:00 to 8:00pm on October 16th in Faraday Room
Micromouse Lecture 1
6:00 to 8:00pm on October 16th, location TBD
DAV Lecture 1
6:15 to 8:00pm on October 17th in Shannon Room
WRAP Lecture 1
6:00 to 8:00pm on October 19th in Faraday Room
OPS Lecture 1
6:00 to 7:30pm on October 19th in Moore 100
Open Project Space is the introductory, beginner-friendly project at IEEE, and it's time to start learning! We'll be kicking off the school year with the first lecture of quarter, an introduction to circuits, where students will learn all the key concepts they need to start fiddling with circuit components and create their very own circuit designs. This OPS lecture will be the foundation for all future ones, so make sure to show up! It'll be hosted in Mathematical Sciences 5137 on Thursday, October 19th from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Be ready to have your mind blown; it's going to be OPSulent!
Opportunities/Plugs
Are you interested in space exploration and working on cool engineering projects with dedicated mentorship? Now’s your chance! ELFIN is recruiting eager engineers to join our mission. You will gain industry experience while contributing to a high-impact mission. More information on our open roles and our application form can be found at elfin.igpp.ucla.edu/apply as well as in our bio, and the deadline is October 15. We can’t wait to see your applications!
Member of the Week
Jackie Duong
Year and major: Junior, Electrical Engineering
Involvement with IEEE: IVP :]
Hobbies: Drinking boba, coffee, failing at latte art, playing tennis, playing piano, listening to Laufey...going to concerts?????? basically spending money $$$
Favorite memory with IEEE: The Fall Picnic that happened this past weekend was a blast! The food was good and the activities were so fun, especially because my team won after I contributed absolutely nothing. Go Squeegee boys!!!! That'll be $20 plz. ifykyk
Your most useless talent or fun fact: my facial recognition skills are literally unmatched the cia tried to hire me but i said no cuz im becoming an engineer
What you would be doing if time and money were not an issue: I would become a F1 racer
Piece of advice to our readers: Just be happy. Find people who care about you and be happy :]
