This Week’s Events
Outreach Committee Applications Open!
Join the Outreach Committee! The purpose of this committee is to give back to our local community by providing resources and support in the form of workshops, panels, and exhibitions. If you are interested in helping students from local high schools and community colleges learn technical ECE skills, or speaking to prospective students at panels, consider joining the ECE Outreach Committee!
The interest form can be found here.
We already have some workshops and exhibits lined up for the upcoming school year, and we're really excited to see how we can impact the community around us. This committee is low commitment (you won't get kicked out if you don't attend an event), so don't worry about not having enough time, we would be happy if you can help out whenever you can!
Please feel free to ask Ryan, our Outreach Coordinator, or email outreach@ieeebruins.com if you have any questions regarding the committee.

Opportunities
IEEE Alumni Mentorship Program
Applications are open until Monday, November 7th at 11:59pm.
The Alumni Mentorship Program applications are now open to all IEEE members! This program aims to inspire, guide, and engage current IEEE members through the experienced guidance of IEEE alumni. Our mentors have a broad range of experiences in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science industries/education. You will be matched to a mentor who can best provide advice on what you need. Apply here now! If you are an alumni, you can apply to be a mentor or a guest panelist here and here!
Urgent Opening for a Raspberry Pi Internship @Traction Labs LLC
We need a person with experience using Raspberry Pis and similar devices as well as C++ and familiarity with java and understanding of python. Experience or understanding of AWS cloud with lambda functions is a plus.
Tasks may include upgrading the pi OS and possibly designing new features such as adding a Wi-Fi module or cellular boards onto the pi.
Ideally, we are looking for a student due to graduate in the next term or year; we are also open to international students - most, if not all of the work can be done remotely. We would want the hired intern to start as early as possible, preferably starting September.
Please contact Ravindra Kondagunta (Ravi) at ravi@traction-labs.com for more information & any questions. Thank you!
Thank you very much!
Member of the Week
Claire Huang
Year and major: Sophomore, Computer Science Engineering
Involvement with IEEE: Publicity Officer (sidenote from Theo: Claire makes all the cool two week look ahead graphics for the newsletter!)
Hobbies: Digital art, playing video games, and singing!
Favorite memory with IEEE: I had a fun time at last quarter's DAVeoke! It was part of the reason why I wanted to join DAV this year!
Your most useless talent or fun fact: My elbows are double jointed, so they bend weirdly and I can crack them easily
What you would be doing if time and money were not an issue: I have a lot of international friends / family that I would love to spend time with again, so I'd probably be traveling!
Piece of advice to our readers: Sometimes, there's only one way to find out. :)

Meme of the Week
Your humble Secretary, Theo Zhang, made this meme. I’m running out of ideas already, please submit meme ideas or memes here.
Poll of the Week
As always, fill out this form to suggest what our meme or poll should be for next week.
If you’ve read this far, leave a comment about why your poll choice is superior and like the post for 3 lab bucks! (lab bucks are no more… this was a shock to me as well…)
UCLA IEEE is dedicated to diversity, inclusion, and member safety. If you have any suggestions, questions, incident reporting, and anything else you would like to share, fill out this anonymous form.
Project 3 was honestly kind of fun. Boelter scares me and so do tangled wires
Untangling for 5 days sucks and so does CS for any amount of time. Boelter also sucks, but a little less.
